Health Education - Diabetes

Choice Medical Group offers our members and our community a variety of Health Education classes and seminars. We believe knowledge is power. The more you know about your health, the more proactive you can be towards a healthier lifestyle. If you have been living with or recently diagnosed with Diabetes ask your Choice Medical Group primary care physician to refer you to this very informational class. Diabetes is a condition on which the level of glucose in the blood called blood sugar is too high. Normally, the body gets its energy from blood sugar, which comes from food. With diabetes the body is not able to use blood sugar properly. As a result, blood sugar builds up in the blood. There are two major types of diabetes Type 1 Diabetes, this is where the pancreas makes little or no insulin. Insulin helps cells use blood sugar. Type II Diabetes is where the pancreas makes some insulin, but either it is not enough or the cells do not use it correctly.

Some people with type 2 diabetes can control their blood sugar level with proper diet and exercise. Others will need insulin and/or other medication, along with proper diet and exercise. When you attend the Diabetes Class you will learn how to monitor your blood sugar, managing your diabetes with diet and exercise, carbohydrate counting, charting your daily meals and taking care of your feet. You will also have the opportunity to have your questions answered about your diabetes.
