Emergency Medical Care
Emergency Medical Care is needed when you are so sick or hurt that NOT going to see your physician right away would:
- Put your life in danger
- Result in serious injury, damage or loss of some part of your body
Examples of Emergencies
- You stop breathing
- You have an asthma attack, are very short of breath, and your lips/fingernails are turning blue in color
- You are unconscious
- You get a severe burn
- You swallow a poisonous/toxic substance
- You are bleeding severely
- You are experiencing signs of a stroke (sudden numbness, dizziness, disorientation and a loss of vision or trouble talking)
- You are experiencing signs of a heart attack (serious chest pain, shortness of breath and sweating)
If you need emergency care, call 911 or go to the nearest Emergency Room
How Do I Access Emergency Care?
By calling your Primary Care Physician.
When in doubt, always check with your Primary Care Physician. He/she will tell you where to access your care. If it is an emergency, your PCP will direct you to a contracted hospital or other facility and authorize your emergency room visit (if needed). If you cannot reach your PCP, and it is an emergency, go directly to the nearest Emergency Facility.
REMEMBER... If you go to the Emergency Room for an injury or illness that is not an emergency or your PCP has not authorized the visit, you could be financially responsible for the unauthorized visit/service.
Choice Medical Group Urgent Care Services
"Urgent Care" is when you need care right away, but the illness or injury is not an Emergency/life threatening injury/illness. Urgent care can be provided by your Primary Care Physician or an Urgent Care Clinic. For urgent care, your Primary Care Physician can usually see you on the same day without an appointment. If you do not know where to access urgent care services, CALL YOUR PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN.
